The massive earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, March 28, 2025, had a huge impact. The epicenter was near the city of Mandalay, where our foundation operates. According to the UN, 3,800 people lost their lives and 5,000 were injured. 50,000 buildings and homes were severely damaged, and 200,000 people were left homeless. Many are still living in makeshift shelters.
Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported at PDO High School. The school buildings themselves sustained damage. This damage was repaired with support from two German foundations, which, like World Child Care, have been active at the school for years. Part of a monk's quarters had collapsed, and the head monk's office had also partially collapsed. New construction was the only solution, and this too was funded by the German foundations.
As a foundation, we paid for the reconstruction of House 1. This was one of two houses we purchased in May 2008 to house 70 orphans. In recent years, two beautiful residential buildings have been built next to the house. House 1 was forced to house around 70 children. With the help of many donors and the support of three friendly foundations, we were able to construct a new building, which now houses 90 girls. The total cost of the project was € 23,500. As a foundation, we had to contribute an additional € 6,000 from our own funds.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported us. If you would still like to make a donation, we would be very grateful. As a foundation, we have not been able to balance our finances for years because we cannot generate enough sponsorship money. The € 6,000 we contributed to the reconstruction of His 1 was unexpected and represents a significant drain on our own funds. If you would still like to support us, please deposit your donation into account number NL22 INGB 0005 1176 35, payable to the World Child Care Foundation in Rosmalen. The bank's BIC code is INGBNL2A. We will transfer the money to PDO High School. Through the school's Thai bank account, we can be sure the money will reach the right people. Thank you so much for your support to the people in Myanmar who desperately need our help now!
