English & Life Skill Program

In 2014 we started an English & Life Skill Program at the PDO High School. Over a period of three years, young people and adults work on their English skills and on meta-skills such as ownership, communication and critical thinking. We also call the program Bridging, because it forms a bridge between secondary school on the one hand and further study and work on the other. With the support of sponsors and Wilde Ganzen, we have furnished a classroom with modern facilities.

Participants

Since 2015, 150 young people and adults have followed daily lessons and are doing self-study. Students who have finished high school can participate in the program. These are young people from The Golden House and The Hostel, but also young people from other residential groups at the PDO High School. Teachers and staff members from the school and beyond also participate. Many young people and young adults now speak good English and their meta skills have improved enormously.

Community

A real community has developed on the school grounds. The young people study together and go out together. Various inspiring activities are organized as part of the program. The young people also meet on Facebook. The program has its own Facebook page.

Program funding

Since 2016, a Dutch fund, affiliated with Ars Donandi, has been prepared to provide structural financial support for the project. Money is also used from sponsor campaigns that we set up as a foundation in the Netherlands.
